Turo’s verification process is designed to keep our entire community safe. Here is a clear guide on how we verify accounts and what to do if we request additional documentation.

## Understanding the verification process

Verifying all users—hosts and guests—is essential for the safety of the Turo platform.

* **What is verified:** We primarily use submitted photos to verify your identity.

* **What else we may check:** As part of the process, Turo may check your personal and/or business credit report, and criminal background. By creating an account, you provide Turo with written instructions and permission to obtain this information in line with the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar laws.

* **International documents:** If you have a passport or International Driving Permit (IDP), submitting it may help us translate and verify a license, especially one written in a non-Latin (Roman) alphabet.

*   **Important limitations:**

    * You won’t be able to book if your information (e.g., email address, driver’s license number) matches another Turo user.

    * Turo reserves the right to decline your trip request and remove you from the platform based on your criminal background, driving record, or any other reason.

## When we request additional verification photos

You submit your initial identity verification photos when you create your Turo account. If we’re unable to conclusively verify your identity, we will ask for additional photos.

We may also request additional photos if you are:

* Booking a Super Deluxe Class vehicle

* Dealing with a [trust and safety issue](https://help.turo.com/trust-and-safety-issues-SJIT4Ve4q)

* Found to have [multiple or linked accounts](https://help.turo.com/multiple-or-linked-accounts-S1ZTVVlV9)

We will notify you via email or app notification if additional photos are needed. Please note that our [privacy policy](https://turo.com/policies/privacy) applies to the information you provide, and we will not share your details with other Turo users.

## Types of additional documents we may request

We may ask for photos of the following:

* **Front and back of your physical driver’s license:** We cannot accept screenshots or photos of a digital license.

* **Selfie of you holding your driver's license** next to your face.

* **Passport**, open to its ID Page.

* **International Driving Permit**, if you do not have a passport.

*   **Proof of residency**.

*   **Bank statement**.

## Guidelines for taking verification photos

Following these guidelines is critical to ensure a successful verification and avoid automatic denial of your account access.

**General photo tips**

* **Avoid Glare:** Remove your license from any plastic sleeve before taking photos, as glare can prevent successful system verification.

* **Quality:** Avoid using the flash setting and filters.

* **Focus:** Make sure the photos are in-focus and show all the required information.

* **Preview:** Always preview your photos before submitting to prevent the need for resubmission.

**Specific photo requirements:**

**Document**

**Required photo details**

Driver’s license photo

Take a clear, close-up photo where all four corners and sides of the license are visible.

Selfie with license

Take a clear photo of you holding your license next to your face. Ensure we can clearly see your face — don’t wear hats or sunglasses. Your head and shoulders must be visible, and your full arm should be showing, if possible.

Passport (ID page)

We may request this if your license was issued out the US, Australia, Canada, France, or the UK, or if additional documents are needed. Take a clear, close-up photo where all four corners and sides of the open passport are visible.

## Guidelines for submitting additional photos

The submission method depends on how we requested the photos.

**If requested via email:**

* **Attach, do not paste:** Attach your photos to your email reply; do not paste them into the body of the email.

* **Use photos:** Do not submit scanned documents; we must have photos to confirm the documents are in your possession.

* **No links:** Do not submit links to files located on Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, as we are unable to view these file types.

**If requested via the website or app:**

* Follow the instructions in the prompts displayed on Turo’s website or app to upload your identity verification photos
