## Allowing additional drivers on your trip

You can request to add up to eight additional drivers at no extra cost at any time after booking your trip. We suggest submitting your request at least 24 hours before your trip starts to give your driver time to create and verify their account, if needed, and get approved to drive. If necessary, you can request to add a driver while your trip is in progress.

Additional drivers **must**:

* [Get approved](https://help.turo.com/en_us/booking-a-car-H1gxVVeE9) to drive on Turo
* Have **or** [create their own Turo account](https://turo.com/sign-up) using an email **NOT** associated with any other Turo account
* Meet Turo’s age and license requirements in the country where your trip takes place ([US](https://help.turo.com/booking-a-car-H1gxVVeE9), [Australia](https://help.turo.com/booking-a-car-australia-HkhqNcD0a), [Canada](https://help.turo.com/booking-a-car-canada-ByHbS9wRT), [France](https://help.turo.com/booking-a-car-france-SJgUrcDAp), [UK](https://help.turo.com/booking-a-car-uk-HJHcScP0p))
* Meet Turo’s [age requirements for the vehicle class](https://help.turo.com/deluxe-class-and-super-deluxe-class-eligibility-Syv7H4lV5); more expensive cars have higher age requirements

## Requesting to add a driver

1. Open the **Trips** tab in the Turo app to access the list of your upcoming trips

2. Tap the **“Manage trip”** button to open a drop-down menu and tap **“Add a driver”**

3. **

If no **“Manage trip”** button is displayed, open the trip to land on the trip **Details** page

    **
4. Tap **“Add a driver”**

5. Enter the email tied to your driver’s Turo account; if they don’t have one, enter an email they check regularly

6. Tell your driver to check for an email from Turo; it could end up in their spam/junk folder

## Checking your driver’s approval status

You can see your driver’s approval status on the **Details** page of your trip. If you don’t see a change in your driver’s approval status, it’s likely because **the email you entered for them doesn’t match the email they used to create their Turo account**. Check with your driver to see if they received an email letting them know whether they were approved.

**If your driver receives an email saying they were approved, they can drive on the trip, even if you don’t see a change in their approval status.** If we’re unable to approve your driver, have them review these [common reasons](https://help.turo.com/resolving-problems-booking-a-car-rJnnNNgV9) why.

**We’re unable to** **discuss your additional driver’s approval status with you,** but they’re welcome to reach out to customer support.

## Understanding your responsibilities as the primary driver

**As the primary driver, you assume all financial responsibility for the vehicle during the trip.**

**You must be the one to pick up and return the vehicle**. If you send an additional driver to pick up the vehicle, your host will refuse them access and report the issue as a [guest no-show](https://help.turo.com/failing-to-show-up-for-a-trip-HJUfENeVq). **If you allow anyone who wasn’t approved by Turo to drive, we’ll void your protection plan.**

## Frequently asked questions

#### Can I make my additional driver the primary driver on my trip?

Neither Turo nor your host can change the primary driver on a trip. You can cancel your trip and have your additional driver rebook. For details on trip refund eligibility, review Turo’s [Cancellation policy](https://turo.com/policies/cancellation).

#### Can I prevent an additional driver from seeing trip details?

Additional drivers will receive notice about the trip and basic trip information, including details about the vehicle. They won’t see your personal or financial information.

#### Can my additional driver pick up or return the vehicle?

The primary driver must be the one to pick up and return the vehicle. If you send an additional driver to pick up the vehicle, your host will refuse them access, report the issue, and Turo will charge you as a [guest no-show](https://help.turo.com/failing-to-show-up-for-a-trip-HJUfENeVq). If they return the vehicle, your host can report the incident to Turo.

#### How can I add myself to a trip as an additional driver?

The primary driver must initiate the request to add an additional driver to a trip.

#### My additional driver doesn’t have a Turo account. Can we share an account?

Drivers can’t share a Turo account. Additional drivers must have their own Turo accounts created with an email not used by any other Turo account.

#### Do I need to be in the car at all times when my additional driver is driving?

The primary driver doesn't need to be in the car when the additional driver is driving. However, the additional driver is not permitted to pick up the vehicle at the start of a trip or to return the vehicle at the end of the trip.

#### My additional driver is old enough to rent and drive a car with Turo. Why were they denied due to age requirements?

If we didn’t approve your additional driver because of their age, it could be because you booked a vehicle that has [higher age requirements due to its market value](https://help.turo.com/deluxe-class-and-super-deluxe-class-eligibility-Syv7H4lV5).

#### My additional driver is under 25 years old. Will I have to pay a young driver fee?

Drivers under 25 years old must pay young driver fees. This fee can’t be removed or refunded at the end of a trip.

#### My additional driver didn’t get my invitation to join the trip. Why not?

There are a few reasons your additional driver may not have received your invite.  You may have made a typo when you entered the email address, used an email address they no longer have access to, or the email may have been routed to their junk/spam folder. They may have set up their Turo account using Apple’s Hide My Email feature. Have them check what email is associated with their Turo account and [update their email](https://help.turo.com/change-email-address-guests-SkPJA0KEeg). Then you can update their email address on the **Details** page of the trip and resend the invite.
