## Picking up a vehicle at the airport

### Pickup location

Turo has delivery permits [at these airports](https://help.turo.com/categories/arranging-airport-delivery-H1t8NEeNc) that specify where guests and hosts can pick up and return vehicles. If you’re picking up a vehicle at one of those airports, Turo will display pickup location information on the **Details** page of your trip an hour before your trip is scheduled to start. Location information will include the name of the lot or garage where the vehicle is located and a photo that shows the location in more detail.

At all other airports where hosts offer delivery, your host will use Turo messaging to send you vehicle location information. Open your **Inbox** and check there for a message from your host.

In the unlikely event your host hasn’t shared any parking location information, contact them via Turo messaging or call them. Their phone number is listed on the **Details** page of your trip.

Every airport is different, which means pickup locations can vary. Airport pickup locations may be in permitted airport garages, lots, and parkades or elsewhere on airport grounds. In some cases, your pickup location may be in a permitted third-party lot that serves the airport or at a location that’s in close proximity to the airport. That also means the way that you get to your vehicle may vary from airport to airport. In most cases, you’ll simply walk. In others you may take a shuttle or an airport train. In some cases, you’ll see step-by-step instructions in the app guiding you to the parking location.

### Pickup instructions

Unless you’ve made arrangements to meet your host in person, you’ll access the vehicle following the instructions they sent you. Some airports allow hosts to bring the vehicle to you at terminal curbside; others expressly prohibit it. Discuss these arrangements with your host once you’ve booked your trip.

If you need a ticket to exit the parking location, the host will leave it in the vehicle for you. If you must pay a parking fee, your host will message you in advance to let you know.

## Returning a vehicle to the airport

If you’re returning your vehicle to an airport where Turo has a delivery permit, open the Turo app to see the list of approved return parking locations. At all other airports, check Turo messaging for information from your host about where to park. Let the host know where you parked by sharing the section number and/or space number and a photo of the vehicle and its surroundings. If you pull a ticket to enter the parking location, leave it for your host and follow their instructions for where to leave the keys.

**US guests** who return a vehicle to a prohibited parking location at an airport where Turo has a parking permit may incur an improper return fee. If you’re returning your vehicle to one of these airports, we’ll display a list of permissible airport return parking location(s) on the **Details** page of your trip 24 hours after the trip starts. We’ll also send a notification 24 hours before the trip ends as a reminder to review the location list.

## Airport fee

If you’re picking up a vehicle at an airport where Turo has a delivery permit [in the US](https://help.turo.com/airport-delivery-information-or-guests-Hky_V4l4q) or [in Canada](https://help.turo.com/canada-airport-delivery-guests-H1zXSKg8c), Turo will add an airport fee to the cost of your trip. Each permitted airport requires Turo to remit to that airport a fee that allows hosts to deliver a vehicle there. Fees are set by the airport and differ across facilities. Turo doesn't set these fees, mark them up, or retain any portion. **This fee is non-negotiable and can’t be removed from a trip.**

**We’ll display this fee on the checkout screen before you book your trip.** You may see it listed as “Airport permit fee,” "Concession recovery fee," “License recovery fee,” or “Operator fee,” depending on the name used by the airport.

## Delivery cost

If you’re picking up and returning a vehicle to an airport, your host may charge to bring the vehicle to the airport location and pick it up after your trip ends. That cost is included in the total cost for the trip.

## Airport parking cost

**If you’re picking up at an airport,** your host must contact you via Turo messaging before your trip begins to let you know whether you’ll be responsible for paying for parking when you pick up your vehicle.

## Parking credit guidelines

Specific parking guidelines and fees are in place at some airports.  If you’re picking up a car at one of these airports, Turo will let you know when we notify you the vehicle is ready for pickup. Responsibility for parking costs will be assigned based on the type of parking available at the given airport.

* **Hourly parking:** You’ll pay to exit the parking location but will receive credit for the hour(s) the vehicle was parked _**before**_ your trip start time, ensuring you’re responsible only for parking costs incurred _**after**_ the scheduled start of your trip

* **Daily parking:** You’ll pay to exit the parking location but will receive credit for the full day

We’ll issue the credit as a refund to your original payment method after you complete check-in or two hours after your trip starts, whichever comes first. If you paid for your trip with travel credit, the refund will be in the form of travel credit.

Guests won’t be eligible for a parking credit if:

* **they meet their host curbside** or at another airport-approved, in-person drop-off/pickup location

* **their host’s vehicle is equipped with a transponder or other contactless payment method** that covers the cost of parking when they exit the parking location

This parking credit is a fixed amount intended to help offset the cost of airport parking for guests. Turo is unable to grant additional credit to guests whose parking costs exceed the credit amount. Guests who are running late due to a travel delay should follow the [current travel delay process](https://help.turo.com/managing-a-flight-delay-or-cancellation-BkGUVNx4q) and contact their host as early as possible to change their trip start time.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why am I being charged an airport fee when my host says they deliver to the airport for free?

**An airport fee and a host’s delivery fee are separate charges for two different things.**
An airport fee is a fee charged by Turo and remitted to an airport in exchange for allowing hosts to deliver vehicles there. This fee is set by the airport and differs across facilities.
A delivery fee is a fee charged by a host in exchange for dropping off and picking up their vehicle at a location somewhere other than the vehicle’s home location, such as an airport.

### Does the airport fee include the parking cost?

**An airport fee doesn’t cover the cost to park at an airport.** It only covers the cost the airport charges in exchange for allowing Turo hosts to deliver their vehicles to that airport.

### It didn’t say anything about an airport fee when I booked my trip. Why not?

**If there’s an airport fee for your trip, we list it on the checkout screen before you book.** Some airports have assigned a different name to this fee, so it may show as "Concession recovery fee," “License recovery fee,” or “Operator fee.”
