## How to cancel a trip

If you absolutely must cancel, you have two options:

1. Go to the trip **Details** page and use the “Change trip” option.

2. Cancel during the [license confirmation](https://help.turo.com/verifying-a-license-SJQejiJto) process by reporting an issue and answering the prompt, “What seems to be the problem”

**Important:** Canceling a trip may seriously disrupt a guest’s plans and reduce their confidence in Turo hosts. And, with [some exceptions](https://help.turo.com/excusing-host-cancellation-fee-rk1bAtBB9), cancellations impact your host metrics, may affect your vehicle’s placement in search results, and may result in additional penalties.

**Note:** If you don’t cancel a trip and fail to show up within 30 minutes of the scheduled trip start, Turo considers that a host no-show and applies the same penalties as those for host cancellation.

## Cancellation impacts

Host cancellations may trigger:

* Account restrictions ranging from temporary unlisting to removal from Turo

*   Cancellation fees

*   Performance and reputation impacts

You will face [violation fees](https://help.turo.com/host-fees-r1aIIExV5) and be held responsible for a host cancellation if you:

* Ask your guest to cancel for you

* Cancel a booked trip to seek a higher price from a guest

* Refuse to cancel to avoid a cancellation fee

Turo [may excuse host cancellation fees and/or remove metrics impacts](https://help.turo.com/excusing-host-cancellation-fee-rk1bAtBB9) under certain circumstances. **If you’re an All-Star Host at the time of cancellation**, we’ll excuse the cancellation fee, and you’ll be able to respond to the automated review with your reason for canceling.

### Performance and reputation impacts

Hosts who cancel a trip may find their performance and reputation impacted in several ways:

*   **

    Bookings decrease due to reduced guest trust.

    **
* Increased cancellation rate, impacting eligibility for All-Star status.

*   Reduced visibility in search

## Cancellation for safety concern

**If you have a public safety or security concern,** cancel the trip in the app or on the web and choose “I’m uncomfortable with this trip.” Then pick “I have a public safety or security concern” as your cancellation reason. When you do, Turo will surface a phone number you can call to reach a team of specialized Turo representatives.

When you choose one of these cancellation reasons, it will trigger a review of the messaging between you and the guest. If our agents find the concern is justified, [we’ll excuse the cancellation fee and remove the cancellation from your performance metrics](https://help.turo.com/excusing-host-cancellation-fee-rk1bAtBB9).

## Cancellation for guest travel delays

If a guest’s flight or train is delayed or canceled or they experience a delay due to lost baggage, they must contact you via Turo messaging to request a new start time. We expect you to make a good faith effort to accommodate your guest in these circumstances. If you try to reschedule but you and your guest can’t agree on a change, call us to report the issue as a [guest no-show](https://help.turo.com/guest-no-shows-SkNzL4g4q).

## Cancellation for safety recalls (US only)

If you’re a US host, you can cancel a guest’s trip penalty-free if you become aware of a [safety recall](https://help.turo.com/en_us/safety-recall-regulations-B1DELEgE5) on your vehicle or your guest asks you to cancel the trip because of a safety recall. To cancel, contact us. Tap the **"Get help"** button below to reach our AI assistant and ask to be connected to an agent. If you allow any trips in a vehicle with an active safety recall, you may void your protection tied to your earnings plan.
