Completing the tax information form | US hosts
Read this article in its entirety for a clear understanding of how to complete your tax information form and ensure the IRS validates your information. Federal regulations require Turo’s US hosts to complete a tax information form.
Completing the tax information form
To successfully complete the tax information form, you must fill in all required fields. Use the information below to help guide you in completing the form. If you’re unsure about what’s being asked of you, hover over the ? icon on the entry fields to see additional context. If you need help accessing the tax information form, follow these instructions.
Personal details
Enter your personal details starting with your name exactly as it appears on your IRS documents. If you’re an individual, enter your name and SSN exactly as they appear on your Social Security Card. If you’re a Business, enter the name and EIN exactly how they appear on the SS4 document you received from the IRS.
Residency status
Answer the question about your residency, “Are you a US citizen?” to determine if you’re eligible to receive a W9 or W8 tax form.
Select “Yes” if you are a US citizen, US permanent resident (green card holder), or other US resident alien under IRS’s “Substantial Presence Test”.
Tax classification
How you answer this question depends on who receives Turo host earnings — an individual or a business. If your account is set up with Turo as an individual, but after reviewing this matrix you think it should be classified as a business, contact Turo customer support by tapping or clicking the “Contact Us” button at the bottom of this page.
Tax classification as “Individual”
If you’re an Individual, Sole proprietor, or a Single-member LLC, your tax classification is “Individual,” and you’ll need to enter your Social Security Number (SSN).
Tax classification as “Business”
If you’re a C Corp, S corp, Partnership, Trust/estate, or an LLC that has filed a form, your tax classification is “Business,” and you’ll need to enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN).
If you’re an LLC that has filed a Form 8832 or Form 2553 to be taxed as a corporation or designated as a partnership, your tax classification is “Business,” and you’ll need to enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN).
Submitting the tax information form
Tap or click “Submit” to review your information. Enter your name and the date at the bottom to serve as your electronic signature, and then tap or click “Next” to review the form. Tap or click “Submit form” when you’re done, or “Make changes” to edit the form.
Turo validates your tax information with the IRS in real-time. If your submitted information matches the information on file with the IRS, you'll receive instant validation. If the IRS can’t validate the information, you’ll get an error message. Recheck your information for spelling errors or an incorrect SSN or EIN, and resubmit.
