You must confirm the primary guest's license before every trip or risk voiding the protection tied to your earnings plan. Use this simple checklist to quickly verify if the license is valid, matches the reservation, and meets all eligibility rules.

## What licenses can I accept?

**Licenses you can accept:**

* **Physical, permanent license** issued in the guest’s country of residence or origin.

* **Temporary or interim license** (aka temporary driving permit) issued in the US or Canada. (This is a paper document valid until the permanent license is issued or arrives in the mail.)

* **Probationary license** (_permis probatoire_) issued _only_ to Quebec drivers. (This license is valid for 24 months after the road driving test and is accepted in all provinces.)

**Licenses you must not accept:**

*   Digital licenses

*   Learner’s permits/instruction permits (e.g., Class 7, Class 7L, G1, or Learner)

*   Photocopies of a license

* International Driving License/Document purchased online and translated in English

* International Driving Permit (IDP) as a _replacement_ for a license

## License confirmation checklist

When reviewing a license, you need to verify these 8 key things:

1. **Name match:** Name on the license matches the reservation information of the primary guest. (Minor mismatches may be acceptable; see the next section.)

2. **Date of birth match:** DOB on the license matches the reservation information.

3. **Photo match:** The guest's face matches the photo on their license.

4. **Active status:** The license must not be expired and must be active for the entire duration of the scheduled trip.

5. **No restrictions:** The license hasn’t been altered and isn’t conditional, provisional, restricted, or a learner’s permit.

6. **Probational status:** The license isn't probational, unless it was issued in Quebec.

7. **Temporary/interim licenses (US/Canada):** The license must have a photo of the primary guest. The guest must also present another government-issued photo ID where their first name, last name, and DOB match the temporary license _exactly_.

8. **Probationary licenses (Quebec):** The license must have a photo of the primary guest. If it doesn't, the guest _must_ also present another government-issued photo ID where their first name, last name, and DOB match the probationary license _exactly_.

## Minor name mismatch: Can I confirm?

If you find a minor name difference but **all other information** matches and the license is eligible, you can still confirm the license.

**Acceptable minor mismatches include:**

* Use of a common nickname or initials (e.g., Mike/Michael; Kim/Kimberly; JR Turner/John Robert Turner)

* Multiple names on the license but fewer names on their profile (e.g., Sarah Michelle Smith Johnson/Michelle Smith)

* Minor differences in spelling or formatting (e.g., Ana/Anna; John Smith/John A. Smith)

* Minor differences in accent marks or formatting (e.g., José/Jose; Van Der Berg/Vanderberg)

## Frequently asked questions

**Q: The guest submitted the license of an additional driver instead of their own. Is that OK?**

**A:** No, it’s not OK. You must confirm the license of the primary driver on the reservation. If the guest wants the additional driver to become the primary driver, they must cancel the trip and have that person rebook it.

**Q: The guest covered up their license number and address. Is that allowed?**

**A:** Yes, we allow guests to cover up their license number and address to protect their privacy. As long as the photo meets all other confirmation checks, you should accept it.

**Do I have to confirm the licenses of additional drivers?**

**A:** No, you only need to confirm the primary driver's license. The primary driver is the one who is financially responsible for your vehicle during the trip, even when an additional driver is operating it.
