This article applies only to AU Hosts with trips booked on one of three earnings plans available as of March 31, 2026 and protected by Turo Travels Mutual (‘the Mutual’). Plans are offered by Turo Australia Pty Ltd and Turo Inc. Follow [this link](https://support-resources.turo.com/protection/au-host-protection-plans-available-before-33126.pdf) to see information about protection plans available prior to March 31, 2026.

## Plan cost

Hosts can choose one of three Vehicle earnings plans: the More peace of mind plan, the Balanced plan, and the More earnings plan.

The cost and level of protection for Australia hosts depend on the earnings plan. You contribute a percentage of the trip price to cover the cost of protection and Turo fees to help cover the costs of operating the platform. The remaining percentage of the trip price is your [“host share."](https://help.turo.com/en_us/understanding-earnings-and-host-take-rate-r1zDrNlNc)

The Damage Responsibility differs for each level of protection. For a given plan and level of protection, if the Assessed Loss exceeds the Damage Responsibility, we will pay the amount that exceeds the Damage Responsibility. This means, if relevant, you may need to pay the Damage Responsibility to the repairer.

## Plan Elements

**Vehicle damage protection:** All earnings plans provide protection for theft, loss of, or damage costs above your selected plan’s damage responsibility. What’s different from plan to plan is the damage responsibility amount and related protection contribution. The damage responsibility is the amount you’d pay before receiving reimbursement for physical damage. The damage responsibility applies regardless of fault and includes theft losses. This protection is in place during the Protection Period only.

**Total loss reimbursement limit**: Turo makes earnings plans available to hosts to cover the costs related to damage (including a total loss) or theft of a protected vehicle, less the Host’s damage responsibility that applies for the selected earnings plan. The absolute highest amount, after the damage responsibility, that we would pay for Loss to the Protected Vehicle for any Event is the lesser of $200,000 or the Vehicle Value.

**Legal liability protection:** All plans come with $20,000,000 in legal liability protection from Turo Travels Mutual (Mutual). Plans are offered by Turo Australia Pty. Ltd (AR No 1300021) and Turo Inc (AR No 1300018). in their capacity as authorised representatives of Picnic Licensing Pty Ltd (AFSL No 532540) (Picnic). This legal liability protection protects against damage to other people’s property. This protection applies during the Protection Period and the Delivery Period.

You must separately have and maintain Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, which protects you from the financial impact of third-party injury or death as a result of an accident that occurs while a guest is using your vehicle.

## Earnings plan options for Australia hosts

You can change your plan anytime, and changes will apply on a go-forward basis to new bookings. Learn [how to update your earnings plan](https://help.turo.com/how-to-update-your-vehicle-protection-plan-rJS2S4eNq). Existing bookings, where the reservation period starts in the future, will still have the plan that was selected at the time the booking was made, even after you change the selected plan for future new bookings.

#### More peace of mind plan

You contribute 35% to protection and fees to cover the costs of running the platform, and your host share (or hosting income) is 65% of the trip price. You’d pay a $100 damage responsibility per incident of eligible loss or damage (as defined in the Host PDS) to your protected vehicle.

**Note:** Turo opts all new listings into the More peace of mind plan. Some plans are not available for some types of vehicles. For example, the More peace of mind plan is not available for vans.

#### Balanced plan

You contribute 25% to protection and fees to cover the costs of running the platform, and your host share (or hosting income) is 75% of the trip price. You’d pay a $750 damage responsibility per incident of eligible loss or damage (as defined in the Host PDS) to your protected vehicle.

#### More earnings plan

You contribute 15% to protection and fees to cover the costs of running the platform, and your host share (or hosting income) is 85% of the trip price. You’d pay a $2,500 damage responsibility per incident of eligible loss or damage (as defined in the Host PDS) to your protected vehicle.

**Note:** Whether you choose the More peace of mind, Balanced, or More earnings Plan, your earnings plan is completely separate from that of your guest. Your guest’s plan has no bearing on your financial responsibility or the damage responsibility for your plan.

## Detailed terms and conditions

The better informed you are, the more comfortable you’ll feel. Be sure to read the [Host Product Disclosure Statement](https://support-resources.turo.com/policies/Host%20PDS%20-%20Turo%20Travels.pdf) for details about Australian host protection. The Turo platform [Terms of Service](https://turo.com/policies/terms) form an important part of the terms and conditions within the Host Protection Product Disclosure Statement.

**Eligibility**

To be eligible to claim for Loss or Damage to the protected vehicle, Turo needs clear photo documentation of the areas for which the Host is seeking to claim.

* **Pre-trip photos** must be taken no more than 24 hours before the scheduled trip start time and uploaded no more than 24 hours after trip start.
* **Post-trip photos** must be taken and uploaded no more than 24 hours after the trip ends. Circumstances that prevent hosts from taking and submitting photos within 24 hours post-trip (e.g., vehicle impounded, vehicle not in host's possession) will not serve as a disqualification.
* If damage can’t be fully demonstrated by such photo evidence, Turo may consider other evidence (e.g. a police report, third-party report) that’s necessary to confirm that the loss or damage took place during the reservation period.

For the full eligibility requirements, please read the [Host Protection Product Disclosure Statement](https://support-resources.turo.com/policies/Host%20PDS%20-%20Turo%20Travels.pdf). Some important references include:

* Strong Host Member Attributes (Pg 5)
*   Exclusions (Pg 17)
* Making Claims & Assessing Claims (Pg 18)

**Repairs**

You must not repair, sell or dispose of any property prior to advising us of the Loss or Damage and allowing us the opportunity to assess the Loss or Damage, unless emergency repairs are required to prevent further Loss or Damage to the Protected Vehicle.

* **Repair Network:** If the Protected Vehicle is not a Total Loss, we will choose a suitable repairer and arrange to repair or replace the damaged parts of your Protected Vehicle. The list of repairers that are part of our network is available by contacting us.
* **Total Loss:** where the Protected Vehicle is stolen and not recovered within a reasonable period of time, or suffers Loss or Damage and we consider repairing it is either unsafe or the cost of repairing it is uneconomical.
* **Salvage:** If we pay a claim for the Total Loss of the Protected Vehicle, the wreckage of the Protected Vehicle (including any accessories and modifications) **will become our property**. We will keep any proceeds from the sale of the wreckage. If you indicate that you wish to retain the wreckage, Turo may, at its discretion, offer a buy-back option. Turo is still obliged to appropriately record total losses with the Written Off Vehicle Register regardless of whether you elect to buy back the wreck. In instances of Total Loss claims where there is a finance amount owing on the Protected Vehicle, we will first pay the finance provider the finance amount outstanding, up to the settlement amount.
    * Where the settlement amount exceeds the finance amount we will pay you the remainder.
    * Where the finance amount exceeds the settlement amount we will pay the finance provider the settlement amount less the Salvage amount. In this situation, we may waive our subrogation right to take ownership of the wreckage and if we do that we will not seek any proceeds from the sale of the wreckage and the vehicle will remain in your possession.
* **Aftermarket Parts:** When repairing the Protected Vehicle, we will only approve payment for use of manufacturer approved parts if the Protected Vehicle is under two years old and has travelled less than 40,000km (but not in relation to windscreens or window glass). Otherwise, we will approve payment for the use of cost effective quality or aftermarket parts that meet Australian Design Rules requirements and are consistent with the age and condition of the Protected Vehicle.
* **Storage Fees**: The reasonable cost of storage will be considered for inclusion when determining the settlement amount to be offered. There are situations where storage fees will not be considered or will be not fully included, including but not limited to:
    * You own or are connected to the storage facility charging the fee
    * Turo is unable to view the vehicle to complete its assessment and the period to settlement is unnecessarily prolonged as a result
    * The daily rate charged is excessive relative to prevailing rates in the market.
    * The location where the protected vehicle is stored refuses to allow Turo to move the vehicle
    * Delays that Turo is not responsible for (e.g. delays caused by you or the repairer in reaching an agreed settlement amount).
    * Allowance for storage after claim settlement.

For the full repair requirements, please read the [Host Product Disclosure Statement](https://support-resources.turo.com/policies/Host%20PDS%20-%20Turo%20Travels.pdf). Some important references include “Making Claims & Assessing Claims (Pg 18)”.

## Terms to know

* **Damage Responsibility:** The amount you are responsible for in the event of loss, theft or physical damage to your Protected Vehicle before you’re eligible for reimbursement.  This amount will vary according to the Earnings plan you choose and will be shown on your Schedule of Protection.
* **Vehicle Value:** The amount we calculate the market would pay for the Protected Vehicle. Where the Protected Vehicle was purchased within 12 months of the Loss or Damage, we will consider the purchase price of the Protected Vehicle. We also take into account the age, make, model, and condition of the Protected Vehicle immediately before the Loss or Damage. We might use recognised industry publications to assist us in calculating the amount. If we do so, depending on the age of the Protected Vehicle, we may also take into account the kilometres it has travelled.
* **Protected Vehicle:** The Vehicle that you make available for Reservation on the Turo platform that is the subject of this Protection. The Protected Vehicle will be set out in the Schedule of Protection.
* **Delivery Period:** Legal Liability protection applies during the Protection Period and for the reasonable time that you are delivering the Protected Vehicle to, and retrieving the Protected Vehicle from, the agreed Reservation pickup location.
* **Protection Period:** begins at the scheduled trip start time listed in the reservation and when the vehicle is in the custody or control of the guest. It ends the earlier of the trip end time or when the vehicle is returned to the host or to the location designated in the reservation.
* **Mechanical Failure:** Confined wear and tear or breakdown of mechanical components, which includes the Vehicle’s electrical system, suspension, engine, or transmission. This consists of any damage resulting from wear and tear, manufacturer defect, lack of maintenance or upkeep along with any additional damages caused by the mechanical failure. Damage caused by Guest negligence and intentional misuse is excluded from mechanical failure.
* **Remote Access:** Further information about using a **Lockbox** is available in the relevant Help Centre article, “[Technology for remote vehicle access](https://help.turo.com/en_us/technology-for-contactless-vehicle-access-BycSSE_cn)”.
