## Summary of host earnings plans in Canada

* Turo makes earnings plans available to hosts to cover the costs related to damage (including a total loss) or theft of a vehicle less any damage responsibility costs that apply (up to the lesser of the actual cash value of the vehicle or $150,000)
* Hosts can choose one of three Vehicle earnings plans: More earnings plan, Balanced plan, and More peace of mind plan.
* All plans provide $2,000,000 in third-party liability insurance offered by Economical Insurance Company or Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) and physical damage protection.
* To qualify for eligible Physical Damage reimbursement, Turo needs clear photo documentation of the areas where the Host is seeking reimbursement.
    * The Host must take photos within 24 hours of the start and end of the trip and submit them to Turo
    * If photo evidence can’t fully demonstrate the damage, Turo may consider other evidence, such as a police report or third-party report to confirm the damage took place during the Reservation Period.
    * Photos without metadata showing date, time, geolocation will be deemed invalid

* **Diminished value.** If your Vehicle is damaged (not totaled) and repaired, you’re not protected from any diminution in the value of your vehicle.
* **Exterior Wear and Tear**. Turo is not responsible for reimbursing any Exterior Wear and Tear costs.
* **Loss of Hosting Income.** Turo is not responsible for reimbursing any Loss of Hosting Income.
*   **Replacement Vehicle Reimbursement**

    * More earnings plan: Not included
* **Protection**. If your car is eligible for physical damage protection, Turo, Economical Insurance, or ICBC will pay for the lesser of the repair cost up to the [actual cash value](https://support.turo.com/hc/articles/115011305568-Vehicle-actual-cash-value-ACV-calculation-and-limits) of the Vehicle or the limits outlined above, subject to the applicable insurance policy and the Turo terms of service. However, there is no reimbursement for any potential reduction in value resulting from damage related to a trip.
* **Quality of repairs.** Unless you select from a Turo-trusted network of repair shops, there’s no guarantee, expressed or implied, for the quality of repairs you obtain. You’ll learn whether a Turo-trusted repair shop is an available option during the claims process. If a shop that isn’t part of the network repairs the eligible damage and the repairs turn out to be of low quality, neither Turo nor insurers will reimburse you for repeat repairs.
*   **Storage fees**
    * Turo will only reimburse you for reasonable Storage Fees, up to the prevailing rates in the market, and never more than $2,500 unless Turo causes a delay that results in additional Storage Fees or as otherwise agreed in writing.
    * You must mitigate your costs and make sure Storage Fees or other expenses aren’t accumulating needlessly. The charges must be reasonable. If Turo informs you that it’s reached an impasse with your repair shop, auto body shop, or tow yard regarding how much Turo is willing to reimburse you, you must promptly remove your vehicle before additional Storage Fees accrue. If you fail to do so, Turo will consider these Storage Fees as Unreasonable Charges.
    * You’ll be responsible for paying additional amounts when your repair or auto body shop includes charges on the invoice above what Turo or its third-party administrators have agreed to reimburse under your earnings plan, or it may be deducted from the amount you receive from Turo.
    * Turo will **only** reimburse you for Storage Fees subject to the limitations mentioned above. We won’t reimburse you for Storage Fees that accrue before the vehicle is deemed a total loss or that result from delays for which Turo isn’t responsible (e.g., delays caused by you or your repair or auto body shop).

## General definitions

* **Actual Cash Value:** The actual value of your vehicle calculated at the time of filing a damage claim. This amount is used to determine the maximum reimbursement amount. ACV is determined by:
* Based on the year, make, model, mileage and condition of your car prior to the loss
* Compared with other similar vehicles in as near the local market as possible
* Using data sources such as industry leading valuation tools
* For some unique vehicles, other methods may be used if valuations are not available
* **Delivery Period**: The period that begins when the Host or designee, who is a Turo-approved driver, departs to actively deliver the Vehicle to the delivery address and ends when the Vehicle arrives at the delivery address. The Delivery Period shall not exceed two hours unless circumstances outside the Host’s control arise to impede delivery, in which case, the Delivery Period shall not exceed 24 hours.
* **Deterioration**: Any fading, discoloration, rust, or wear caused to the interior or exterior of the Vehicle over time. It also includes any deterioration from road use of tires and mechanical deterioration of belts, suspension, and electrical and mechanical components, along with any resulting damage from these events.
* **Exterior Wear and Tear**: any dings, dents, cracks, or scratches to the exterior body of the Vehicle that is 3 inches in diameter or less. This includes, but isn’t limited to, rims, wheels, hubcaps, any painted or textured area for the body of the Vehicle, and moldings. Separate incidents that may cumulatively that add up to more than 3” are still considered Wear and Tear.
* **Guest:** The primary name listed on the reservation. We also use it to refer to any Turo-approved additional drivers listed on the reservation.
* **Host:** The person(s) or entity that lists a Vehicle on Turo, including but not limited to the Vehicle owner(s) and persons or entities authorized by the Vehicle’s owner(s) to list the Vehicle on Turo.
* **Interior Wear and Tear:** minor scuffing of interior surfaces, along with any dials, switches, or knobs, that fail over time. Cuts and punctures that are clearly due to abuse or misuse by the Guest are not included in this definition.
* **Loss of Hosting Income**: Possible earnings a Host might have lost due to protected damage to the Vehicle.
* **Mechanical Failure:** Confined wear and tear or breakdown of mechanical components, which includes the vehicle’s electrical system, suspension, engine, or transmission. This consists of any damage resulting from wear and tear, manufacturer defect, lack of maintenance or upkeep. Damages caused by guest negligence and intentional misuse are excluded from mechanical failure. Clutch damage is handled separately. Read our [clutch policy.](https://help.turo.com/clutch-repair-reimbursement-SJfvUNlEc)
* **Necessary Repair Costs:** the reasonable and necessary costs for the parts and the labor required to repair the eligible Physical Damage to the reserved vehicle, that occurred after the Delivery Period and during the Reservation Period.

Reasonable labour costs are the standard labour times, from market accepted estimating tools. Labour rates are based upon, prevailing labour rates. Prevailing labour rates may be determined by the estimating provider for estimates written in the local market.

If Turo has communicated a preferred vendor for services such as glass repair/replacement, key replacement or other repair processes, the necessary repair cost is the pricing from the preferred provider. While you are allowed to use your own vendor, the most your earnings plan will reimburse for Necessary repair Costs is the amount that the Turo approved vendor would perform them for, with no additional markup. If the repair facility you chose charges higher than the prevailing labor rates, the difference in cost is the host responsibility. The following are **Excluded Costs:**

* Aftermarket accessories that don’t replace original parts. Read complete information on [use and reimbursement of aftermarket parts](https://help.turo.com/use-and-coverage-of-aftermarket-parts-BkKPU4eV9).
* If the Reimbursable Cause is an act of nature (e.g., flood, earthquake, hail, windstorm, etc.), any cost that the Host’s private passenger auto insurer wouldn’t have been required to pay under the primary insurance policy covering the Vehicle in effect immediately prior to the start of the Reservation Period.
* Profit and overhead on parts and repair costs performed at a repair facility owner by the host.
* Storage fees from a shop or repair facility that is owned by the host.
* **Physical Damage**: actual tangible damage to the Vehicle, other than Excluded Damage, that occurs during the Delivery Period or Reservation Period as a result of a Collision or a Comprehensive loss. The Host bears the responsibility to demonstrate that damage meets the definition of Physical Damage and occurred during the Reservation Period.
    * **Collision** means when the Vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object.
    * **Comprehensive:** other property damage to the vehicle that isn’t a Collision – fire; theft or attempted theft; lightning; windstorm; hail or rising water; earthquake; explosion; falling or flying objects, missiles or vandalism.
    *   **Excluded Damage:**
        *   Damage existing as of the start of the Reservation Period;
        *   Damage that occurs during or after any period in which the Host is in violation of the Terms of Service;
        *   Damage to any personal items left in the Vehicle;
        * Damage to, or resulting from, tires that are defective, have excessive wear & tear or dry rot, have tread depth less than 4/32 inch, were not properly inflated before the reservation, or are 6 or more years old
        *   Deterioration;
        *   Exterior Wear and Tear;
        *   Interior Wear and Tear;
        *   Mechanical Failures;
        *   Physical Damage to the Vehicle that occurs during the Reservation Period while it is in the Host’s control;
        * Dings, dents, scratches, and creases to the inside of truck beds, cargo vans, and box trucks from loading or carrying items
        * Scrapes, scratches, dings regardless of size, to the underside of bumpers, air deflectors and underbody panels.
        * Profit and overhead on parts and repair costs performed at a repair facility owner by the host.
        * Storage fees from a shop or repair facility that is owned by the host.
* **Replacement Vehicle Reimbursement:** reimburses Hosts for costs incurred by booking alternate transportation while the Vehicle is being repaired due to eligible damage that occurred during the Reservation Period while the Vehicle is in the Guest’s custody or control.
* **Reservation Period:** The period agreed to by the Host and Primary Guest during which the Guest is to have possession of the Vehicle. A more detailed definition of the Reservation Period may vary depending on the insurer. For more information, please refer to the [Economical](https://www.economical.com/en/lp/turo-commercial-auto-insurance) [Insurance Company](https://www.economical.com/en/lp/turo-commercial-auto-insurance) and [ICBC](https://www.icbc.com/insurance/commercial/Pages/peer-to-peer-vehicle-rental.aspx) insurance policies.
* **Unreasonable Charges:** needless accumulated expenses incurred due to not promptly removing your vehicle before additional storage fees accrued.
* **Vehicle:** the vehicle booked during the applicable reservation.

### Protection Requirements and Process

*   **Proof of Physical Damage:**
    * For Hosts to qualify for Physical Damage protection and for the Primary Guest to be held responsible for the damage, Turo must have the following documentation:
        * (1) clear photo documentation from the Host of the areas of the Vehicle the Host is seeking protection against taken within 24 hours of the start _and_ end of the trip that demonstrates that the damage occurred during the trip; **or**
        * (2) other evidence (e.g., a police report, third party report) that demonstrates the damage took place during the trip; **or**
        * (3) if _all_ of the two following conditions are true: (a) the Host or the Host’s designee was not physically present at the start of the reservation; and (b) the Guest did not take front, back, side, and other applicable photos of the Vehicle at the time of vehicle pick-up. If 3a - 3c are all met, then clear photo documentation of the area the Host is seeking protection for taken within 24 hours of the end of the trip by the Host, along with the Host’s credible representation that the damage took place during the trip, may be sufficient documentation to qualify for Physical Damage protection.

Turo reserves the right to review, investigate, and verify all documentation submitted in support of a claim. If Turo reasonably determines that documentation has been altered, falsified, or submitted in a misleading manner, Turo may deny the claim or take other action permitted under the Terms of Service.

* **Proof of cost for Replacement Vehicle Reimbursement**
    * For Hosts to qualify for Replacement Vehicle Reimbursement, Turo must have clear, dated receipts of the costs incurred.
    * Replacement Vehicle Reimbursement is paid directly to the Host.

* Turo reserves the right to require an independent diagnostic inspection prior to approving reimbursement. Any such inspection will be arranged and paid for by Turo.

* Turo reserves the right to conduct a reinspection of the Vehicle after documentation of repairs has been submitted, to verify the nature, extent, and completion of the claimed repairs.

* Failure to make the Vehicle reasonably available for inspection or reinspection, or to provide reasonably requested documentation, may result in denial of or reduced reimbursement.

* Where Turo has a reasonable, documented basis to suspect fraud, misrepresentation, or abuse — including but not limited to prior claim history, inconsistent documentation, or suspicious claim patterns — Turo may elect to administer and settle a claim on a reimbursement-only basis. In such cases, the Host will be notified of this election promptly following Turo's determination that reimbursement-only administration is warranted, which may occur at any stage of Turo’s review process. The Host must then submit itemized invoices for parts and labor, proof of payment (such as bank or card statements or other verifiable payment records), and any additional documentation reasonably requested by Turo. Cash receipts alone are not sufficient proof of payment. Claims administered on a reimbursement-only basis will not be paid until all required documentation has been received and reviewed.

The allocation of responsibility between Turo and the Host isn’t impacted or altered in any manner by any amount that Turo can or does collect from the Primary Guest or from a third party on account of the Physical Damage. The Host’s plan is unrelated to the level of responsibility retained by the Primary Guest under whichever Guest protection plan is chosen by the Primary Guest.
