## Aim for a five-star rating

Guests rate a trip based on their assessment of several trip elements, including vehicle maintenance, vehicle cleanliness, and vehicle listing accuracy. Hosts who excel in these areas receive more five-star ratings from guests. Exceptional hosts may qualify for our [All-Star Host program](https://turo.com/all-star-host).

Turo tracks host performance and pays special attention to your ratings and reviews. Regularly check your guest reviews to identify areas for improvement and use the feedback to enhance your service. You can see how you’re doing at any time on your [Performance page](https://turo.com/host/performance).

If you fall below our standards, we’ll provide you with a warning and an opportunity to improve. Consistently falling short of Turo’s standards may lead to removal from the platform. Learn what’s required to meet [Turo’s vehicle quality standards](https://help.turo.com/vehicle-quality-standards-SJ10p9JEJl).

Follow the tips below to increase the odds of a five-star rating from your guests and take advantage of [Turo deals and discounts](https://turo.com/us/en/car-rental/united-states/host-hub) to help you keep your vehicle in tip-top shape.

## Set accurate expectations with your listing

Guests expect the vehicle they receive to match the photos and features in your listing. Update your [vehicle listing photos](https://help.turo.com/listing-photos-guide-rJBHuRQSh) often to give guests a true picture of your vehicle’s condition. Make sure your listing accurately lists your vehicle’s features. [Create a scheduled message](https://help.turo.com/managing-scheduled-messages-rkpqS4lEc) to send when guests book and include any quirks or must-knows about your vehicle or how it operates. Any misrepresentation in the listing is a violation of Turo’s [vehicle misrepresentation policy,](https://help.turo.com/vehicle-misrepresentation-SkLQ84eNc) which carries with it fees, loss of earnings, and possible voiding of your protection plan and/or removal from Turo.

## Ensure the vehicle is sparkling clean

Guests expect vehicles to be clean inside and out — they want that new car feeling. Many five-star hosts commit to a professional car wash before each trip. If you choose to do the cleaning yourself, keep these standards in mind.

* **Exterior:** Wash the vehicle to remove dirt, grime, bugs, and salt
* **Dashboard, steering wheel, and other hard surfaces:** Wipe them clean to remove dust and grime
* **Floors:** Vacuum them thoroughly and remove any litter
* **Seats and upholstery:** Remove any stains, crumbs, debris, or pet hair
* **Windows and mirrors:** Wash and remove streaks for clear visibility

To guests, a car is only as clean as it smells. Make sure there are no unpleasant odors. If you’re struggling to remove offending smells, use a [Spiffy](https://www.getspiffy.com/smarttumbler/turo-order?utm_campaign=deals2024&utm_source=lp&utm_medium=turo) to clear the vehicle of odors.

## Ensure the vehicle is in tip-top condition

* Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for regular maintenance
* Ensure no dashboard warning lights are on at the start of the trip, and let your guest know in advance  if your vehicle has maintenance reminders that aren’t urgent
* Track your vehicle’s oil changes and mileage and proactively change the oil
* Check the tire pressure and tread before the trip starts; if you’re in a cold weather climate, consider slightly over-inflating the tires to ensure the guest’s trip isn’t disrupted
* Fill the gas tank or charge the battery to its optimal level before handing off the vehicle
* Consider fixing minor dents, scratches, and other cosmetic damage; guests prefer vehicles that look as though they’ve just left the dealership

## Communicate with your guest during the trip

* Once a trip is booked, introduce yourself and and share trip coordination details; consider creating a [scheduled message](https://help.turo.com/managing-scheduled-messages-rkpqS4lEc) to handle this introduction
* Create and share clear and concise pickup and return instructions
* Opt into [push and text notifications](https://help.turo.com/turning-on-notifications-for-turo-app-r1XYsp6H5) to avoid missing out on messages from your guests
* Check on your guest at least once during the trip to make sure the vehicle is performing well and meeting expectations and remain available to field questions that may come up
* Monitor on-board diagnostic devices that alert you if there’s an issue so you can reach out to the guest and quickly resolve the situation

## Rate your guest after the trip

Turo notifies guests when a host has submitted a rating for them. Promptly rating a guest  increases the likelihood that they’ll rate you in return. Scheduling a post-trip message to remind guests to leave a rating also increase the chance that they’ll provide feedback.

**What guests say about five-star vehicles:**

“Great car, fun ride! The host was really accommodating and made pick up and drop off really easy. Just remember, and he will tell you the same, you are getting a Jeep, not a luxury SUV. But if you are looking for a vehicle to have some fun, don’t hesitate on this one!”

“It looked brand new, both inside and out. The car was spotlessly clean, with a fresh, pleasant scent. The seats were comfortable, and the interior was spacious enough to accommodate all my luggage and passengers comfortably. It performed exceptionally well on the road. It had a smooth and responsive ride, and the handling was precise.”

“The jeep was as advertised. Super clean. This was an easy transaction with no headaches. I would rent from this owner again and recommend it to anyone.”
