Hosts are responsible for routine vehicle maintenance for monthly and long-distance trips. This article explains how to initiate maintenance with your guest, coordinate a path forward, and ensure all requirements are met.

## Instructions for completing routine maintenance

Hosts are responsible for routine vehicle maintenance for trips longer than 30 days and for trips with an included distance of more than 3,000 miles (US and UK) or more than 5,000 kms (Australia, Canada, France). When maintenance is required, gather evidence from Bouncie, Standard Fleet, or other documentation, including OEM notifications. Reach out to the guest via Turo messaging to agree on 1 of 2 paths for completing the maintenance:

**Path 1: Guest manages maintenance**

1. **Get guest agreement:** Ask via Turo messaging if the guest agrees to manage the maintenance.

2.  **Share requirements:**

    * Scope of work and the specific repair shop.

    * Completion timeline (default is 2 weeks if not specified).

    * Payment arrangement (Host pays the shop directly OR guest pays and requests reimbursement).

**Path 2: Host manages maintenance via a vehicle swap**

1. **Get guest agreement:** Ask via Turo messaging if the guest agrees to swap vehicles so the host can manage the maintenance.

2. **Process the swap:** If the guest agrees to the swap, [follow the steps for swapping a vehicle](https://help.turo.com/vehicle-swaps-r13srEe4c), including processing the swap through Turo.

3. **Determine guest preference post-maintenance:** Once the work is completed, ask via Turo messaging if the guest wants to keep the replacement vehicle or swap back. If swapping back, follow the steps for swapping a vehicle, including processing the return swap through Turo.

## Important guidelines for managing vehicle maintenance for a monthly or long-distance trip

_(This section outlines host responsibilities and procedures for maintenance issues.)_

* **Costs:** Hosts are always responsible for routine maintenance costs.

* **Refusal:** If the guest declines both the vehicle swap and the request to manage maintenance themself, contact customer support, who may end the trip early.

* **Deadlines:** If the guest fails to complete the maintenance within the agreed timeline, contact customer support. They will reach out to the guest and, based on the remaining trip length and response, may charge additional usage fees, end the trip early, and close the guest's account.

## Approved routine maintenance

Turo requires hosts to complete approved vehicle maintenance for monthly and long-distance trips and has approved this list of routine maintenance tasks:

* **Filter replacements:** Cabin air and engine air filter replacements.

* **Fluid refills:** Coolant refill and wiper fluid refill.

*   **Oil changes:** Oil changes.

*   **Tire maintenance:** Tire rotations.

* **Wiper replacements:** Wiper blade replacements.
