Hosts are responsible for routine maintenance during all trips, including monthly and long-distance trips. This article outlines the maintenance responsibilities and procedures for guests during these trips.

## Instructions for completing routine maintenance

Hosts are responsible for routine vehicle maintenance for trips longer than 30 days and for trips with an included distance of more than 3,000 miles (US and UK) or more than 5,000 km (Australia, Canada, France). The host will reach out to the guest in Turo messages to arrange which 1 of 2 maintenance paths both agree on:

**Path 1: Guest manages maintenance**

1. **Agree to manage:** If the guest agrees to manage the maintenance, define the following in Turo messaging:

    * Scope of work and the specific repair shop.

    * Completion timeline (default is 2 weeks if not specified).

    * Payment arrangement (Host pays the shop directly OR guest pays and requests reimbursement).

2. **Save proof of payment:** Keep your receipt/shop invoice to request reimbursement.

**Path 2: Host manages maintenance via vehicle swap**

1. **Agree to swap:** If the guest agrees to let the host complete the maintenance by swapping the guest into another vehicle in the host’s fleet, confirm details with the host in Turo messaging.

2. **Process the swap:** Ensure the host processes the swap through Turo before you swap vehicles.

3. **Confirm post-maintenance preference:** Once work is completed, let the host know in Turo messaging whether you want to keep the replacement vehicle or swap back. If swapping back, ensure the host processes the return swap through Turo.

## Important guidelines for managing vehicle maintenance for a monthly or long-distance trip

* **Costs:** Hosts are always responsible for routine maintenance costs.
* **Refusal:** If the guest declines both the request to manage maintenance and the vehicle swap, Turo may end the trip early.

* **Deadlines:** If you agree to manage the maintenance but fail to complete it within the completion timeline, Turo may charge additional usage fees, end your trip early, and close your account.

## Approved routine maintenance

Turo requires hosts to complete approved vehicle maintenance for monthly and long-distance trips and has approved this list of routine maintenance tasks:

* **Filter replacements:** Cabin air and engine air filter replacements

* **Fluid refills:** Coolant refill and wiper fluid refill

*   **Oil changes:** Oil changes

*   **Tire maintenance:** Tire rotations

* **Wiper replacements:** Wiper blade replacements
