Maintenance requirements

Turo sets conditions for keeping your vehicle in good working order and has measures in place if maintenance standards aren’t met.

Vehicle maintenance requirements

Turo requires you to follow the laws and regulations for vehicle safety, condition, and operation in your area. You must maintain your vehicle for every trip following the guidelines issued in our maintenance checklist. View the checklist for US (English),  Canada (English), or Canada (French)

Hosts in the US and Canada must get an annual vehicle safety inspection. Hosts in the UK must confirm annual vehicle servicing and pass the MOT test where required. Hosts in France must complete the compulsory technical control for their vehicle four years after the first registration and every two years thereafter.

Maintenance failures

Turo may take the following actions if you fail to properly maintain your vehicle:

  • Cancel booked trips and unlist your vehicle if we learn you haven’t followed winter safety requirements in effect in your area
  • Charge a $100* violation fee and/or withhold earnings for the impacted trip if we learn you haven’t maintained your vehicle or are in violation of state or local regulations, (e.g., failure to register, inspect, or insure the vehicle, failure to repair lights, turn signals, or other safety equipment, etc.); we regard these kinds of issues as vehicle misrepresentation.
  • Charge hosts in the US a roadside fee of $350* or charge hosts in Canada a roadside fee up to $400* plus a 3% processing fee if we have to dispatch roadside service because of a maintenance issue or vehicle wear and tear
  • Charge hosts in the US a roadside fee of $350* or charge hosts in Canada a roadside fee up to $400* plus a 3% processing fee for a secondary tow or transport if the initial tow was due to a maintenance issue or vehicle wear and tear
  • Charge hosts in the UK up to $500* for maintenance failures, which would include the violation fee of $100* and an administrative fee of $200* if we have to dispatch roadside service because of a maintenance issue
  • Place your account under review and potentially remove you from the platform if we find tire maintenance issues, such as bald tires
  • Unlist your vehicle if it hasn’t been properly maintained
  • Void your protection if a maintenance issue is the cause of a damage claim.
