## Valid trip change requests

**If a guest wants to extend** **or shorten** **their trip**, they must submit the request through the Turo system, which will either automatically make the trip change or pass the request on to you to manually confirm or decline it. A verbal or written agreement on your part—even in Turo messaging—isn’t valid and could result in Turo voiding all protection tied to your earnings plans.

Because guests can request a trip extension up to 24 hours after their trip ends, you may receive notice of an automatic trip change or notice of a pending guest request up to 24 hours after a guest was due to return your vehicle. That means a guest who’s initially late to return a vehicle may request to keep it longer and, if the extension is approved, would no longer be considered late. **If a guest wants to end their trip up to three hours early,** they can send you the request via Turo messaging, and you can approve or decline it there. **If a guest wants to end their trip more than three hours early,** they must submit the request via the Turo system.

**If a guest wants to start a trip up to one hour early,** Turo doesn’t require them to submit a request via the system. A one-hour-early trip start time is valid if you and your vehicle are available, and if you agree to the earlier start.

## Response to requests to extend or shorten a trip

#### Change automatically made

The Turo system reviews guests’ requests to extend or shorten a trip and will automatically accept the request if your vehicle has calendar availability, isn’t restricted or unlisted, and the request doesn’t conflict with vehicle settings for advance notice, pickup and return hours, trip buffer, and trip duration at the vehicle’s location (home, delivery, custom).

For example, a guest wants to change the return time from 7pm to 9 pm for a home location trip. Your home location pickup and return hours end at 10pm, so the trip change would be automatic.

#### Change sent to you

**If the vehicle is unavailable or restricted or if there are any conflicts with your settings at the vehicle’s location**, the system will send the request to you to confirm or decline.

For example, a guest wants to change the return time from 7pm to 9pm for a home location trip. Your home location pick up and return hours end at 8pm, so the trip change will require your approval.

#### Change not allowed

**If the vehicle is unavailable, unlisted, or restricted or if there’s a conflict with your trip buffer time at the vehicle location,** the guest won’t be able to submit a change request and no change will be made to the trip.

## Trip earnings and discounts

**If a trip is extended,** we’ll apply any relevant discount you’ve set to the additional days. If your guest extends a non-refundable trip, the additional days are non-refundable, too.

**If a trip is shortened,** and the new length falls below the threshold for any discounts you’ve set, a new discount rate will be calculated based on the current rate at the time of the change, and we’ll charge any balance due.

**If a non-refundable trip is shortened more than 24 hours after the booking was made**, the unused days won’t be refunded and **your earnings won’t be impacted**.

**If you agree to let a guest start a trip one hour early or end a trip up to three hours early,** your earnings won’t be impacted.

**If you offer free delivery for trips of a certain duration** and a guest extends an in-progress trip to meet that duration threshold, Turo won’t apply the discount for free delivery. **Learn more about** [**offering discounts**](https://help.turo.com/offering-discounts-rJJHrVxVq).

## Why can’t my guest extend their trip?

Guests may be unable to extend their trip and may reach out to you for help. The issue may be that the vehicle is unavailable or that the extension interferes with your vehicle settings. Guests may also be unable to extend their trip due to an issue with their payment method, insufficient funds, or because they disputed a charge from Turo with their payment provider.
