#### You don’t need your own insurance to book a trip on Turo.

## Personal insurance

You don’t need personal insurance to book a trip on Turo. All trips come with liability insurance or legal liability protection included. It covers bodily or property damage to another person if you’re responsible for the damage. This insurance doesn’t pay for vehicle loss or damage, which is why Turo makes vehicle protection plans available for purchase. These plans protect your wallet by limiting how much you’d pay if there’s on-trip covered physical damage to your host’s vehicle.

## What Turo offers

#### Liability insurance and legal liability protection

**Every trip you book on Turo includes liability insurance or, in Australia, legal liability protection.** This covers bodily or property damage to another person if you’re responsible for an accident that caused the damage. Liability insurance and legal liability protection may include other mandatory coverages required by state, provincial, or local laws and regulations. Liability insurance and legal liability protection included with each trip doesn’t pay for loss or damage to the vehicle you book on Turo, which is why Turo offers protection plans.

#### Protection plans

Turo offers vehicle damage protection plans that limit the amount you’d have to pay if there’s covered physical damage to your host’s vehicle during your trip. **You don’t need personal insurance to book a trip on Turo. In most US states, and in Australia and Canada, if you do have insurance, Turo may rely on your coverage first before turning to any protection plan you choose**. ## Personal responsibility

If you do have a personal insurance policy, confirm with your carrier that your coverage would apply with Turo. Most personal insurance policies do not cover peer-to-peer car sharing, but some do. Even if your policy would provide coverage, you may still want to consider a protection plan to lower your out-of-pocket costs in the event of covered damage or if your policy doesn't have comprehensive and collision coverage.

If you don’t choose a protection plan, you’ll be relying solely on your own applicable personal insurance coverage to cover loss or damage to the host’s vehicle. You’ll be financially responsible for the full value of the vehicle and all related costs, including claims processing fees and appraisal costs. **Unless you’re confident your personal insurance will cover you, we strongly advise you select a protection plan when booking your trip.**

Some insurance companies don’t provide coverage for peer-to-peer car sharing, and it’s unlikely your [credit card company](https://help.turo.com/insurance-or-coverage-via-a-credit-card-rklgH4g45) provides coverage for a Turo trip. Check with your insurer or your broker before making your decision.
