Turo offers protection plans made available on Turo to address the primary Guest’s financial responsibility for any damage to the Vehicle during the booked trip. These plans also address financial responsibility for Additional Services like [Roadside Assistance](https://support.turo.com/hc/articles/360012302113-Roadside-assistance-for-guests-UK). These protection plans covering the Guest’s responsibility for damage to a Vehicle are not insurance but an agreement between the Guest and Turo.

## Physical damage

#### Guest responsibilities

As the primary Guest, you’re responsible for:

* returning the vehicle on time in the same condition it was in when you first received it
* costs to repair all Physical Damage to or theft of the Vehicle, as well as Related Costs, during the period of the booked trip, regardless of who is found to be at fault for the damage
* claims processing costs up to **£250** per claim — if a third party accepts total fault for the claim and that third party’s insurer processes it on behalf of the host without substantial processing by Turo’s third-party claims management vendor, we’ll refund the Guest’s processing fee

#### Mechanical or Interior Damage

Protection plans don’t cover interior damage or mechanical damage caused during the booked trip. You’re responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement and Related Costs for interior damage or mechanical damage that occurs during the trip. You’re not responsible for normal “wear and tear” to the interior or mechanical breakdowns not caused by your neglect or abuse. “Wear and tear” doesn’t include cracked or chipped glass caused by rocks or other debris.

## Protection plans to limit out-of-pocket costs for Physical Damage

By choosing one of available protection plans, you can contractually limit the amount you’re legally obligated to pay out-of-pocket in the event of Physical Damage to the Vehicle. This isn’t insurance but an agreement on the allocation of financial responsibility. The contractual limitation of financial responsibility included in these protection plans **ONLY** applies:

* to the amount the primary Guest is obligated to pay in excess of insurance that's available from the Guest and has been collected; and
*   if the primary Guest and each approved secondary driver abide by the Turo Terms of Service and policies;
* to Physical Damage, not Mechanical or Interior Damage.

1. **Premier plan:** Under the Premier plan, the amount of excess the primary Guest is liable to pay for Physical Damage (other than Mechanical or Interior Damage) to the reserved car during the reservation, plus Related Costs, is contractually limited to £250.
2. **Standard plan:** Under the Standard plan, the amount of excess that the primary Guest is liable to pay for Physical Damage (other than Mechanical or Interior Damage) to the reserved car during the reservation, plus Related Costs, is contractually limited to £750. When damage is reported, we’ll charge the primary Guest the full £750. If the costs of the damage, plus all Related Costs, minus insurance collected, are less than £750, we’ll refund the difference.
3. **Minimum plan:** Under this plan, the amount of excess that the primary Guest is liable to pay for Physical Damage (other than Mechanical or Interior Damage) to the reserved car during the reservation, plus Related Costs, is contractually limited to £2,000. When damage is reported, we’ll charge the primary Guest the full £2,000. If the costs of the damage, plus all Related Costs, minus insurance collected, are less than £2,000, we’ll refund the difference.
4. **Decline plan:** Under this plan, the primary Guest’s financial responsibility for damage to the Vehicle isn’t contractually limited at all. The primary Guest is liable to pay for all Physical Damage to the reserved car during the reservation, plus Related Costs. Liability insurance applies, which protects third parties, but does not apply to damage to the vehicle you’re driving or your responsibility for it during your trip. When damage is reported, in certain circumstances the primary Guest may be charged a damage deposit. If the final damages plus all Related Costs such as claims administrative fees and appraisal costs, minus insurance collected, are below the deposit amount, or the claim is not eligible for protection, the difference will be refunded.

## Important considerations

#### Coverage via credit card

Don’t assume that your personal auto insurance policy or credit card coverage applies to person-to-person car sharing trip bookings in the same way it applies to traditional rental car bookings. [Get more information about credit card coverage.](https://help.turo.com/insurance-or-coverage-via-a-credit-card-rklgH4g45)

#### Documentation of vehicle condition

Protect yourself against an allegation that damage to the Vehicle occurred during the period of the booked trip by taking photos of the Vehicle's condition, including any existing damage, at the start of the booked trip — upload the photos to Trip Photos at the start of the trip.

#### Terms of Service and policy violations

For the Premier, Standard, and Minimum plans, if the Guest or any of their approved secondary drivers violate the [Terms of Service](https://turo.com/policies/terms), engages in any [Prohibited uses](https://help.turo.com/prohibited-uses-Hyi0E4l49) or otherwise intentionally, recklessly, or with wanton disregard, misuse the car, the contractual limitation of liability is void and does not apply. That means that the primary Guest will be fully liable for Physical Damage, including up to the actual cash value of the car, in addition to all Related Costs.

## Terms to know

* **Guest** \- Refers to the primary guest tied to the trip booking.
* **Physical Damage** \- Any damage to the Vehicle, including Mechanical Damage and Interior Damage.
* **Related Costs** - These include all costs and fees resulting from damage of any kind to the Vehicle during the booked trip. Cost and fees include but are not limited to:

*   estimation or appraisal costs
*   storage fees
*   towing fees
*   repair or replacement costs
*   registration or transfer taxes
* claims processing costs and all similar or associated costs, minus any residual salvage value that’s collected.

* **Vehicle** \- Refers to the vehicle booked during the applicable reservation.

## Third party liability

Third-party liability insurance is not part of any guest protection plan. It’s covered separately in the UK: Turo has arranged third-party liability motor insurance coverage through ERS (Syndicate 218 at Lloyd’s) managed by IQUW Syndicate Management Limited, arranged via Turo’s broker, Lockton Companies LLP. IQUW and Lockton are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Learn more about [liability insurance](https://help.turo.com/liability-insurance-uk-guests-ryowWz4po) for guests.
