Use this guide to learn about new compliance requirements going into effect **September 14, 2026** and how to avoid automatic vehicle restrictions. ## Changes to Turo’s quality standards To keep the marketplace competitive and encourage more repeat bookings, Turo is raising quality standards for **5-star rate** to 70% by April 2027 and setting a higher **vehicle** **maintenance rate threshold** starting Sept. 14, 2026.  ## 5-star rates Turo will roll out increases to 5-star rates in 3 phases. In each phase, Turo will identify and notify hosts who do not meet the new threshold of their current rate, their deadline for improvement, and the consequence of having their ability to host restricted if they’re unable to improve. * **Evaluation date:** Turo evaluates hosts’ 90-day 5-star rate. Hosts below the upcoming threshold are notified and enter the improvement period. * **Deadline date:** Turo evaluates hosts’ 5-star rate from the improvement period. Hosts who fail to reach the required threshold will have their accounts removed.  * **Improvement period:** The time between evaluation and deadline. Increases will be rolled out in 3 phases. Maintenance rate is determined by the percentage of five-star maintenance ratings received out of the last 10 completed trips. If a trip receives a five-star overall trip rating but no rating in the maintenance category, Turo will consider this a 5-star maintenance rating. Unlike 5-star rate, which is evaluated at each phase deadline, maintenance rate is evaluated continuously. On each phase's effective date, any vehicle below the new threshold on its last 10 trips will be automatically restricted from new bookings until an inspection is approved. **Phase** **Effective Date** **Maintenance Rate Threshold** **Restriction** 1 Sept.14, 2026 50% (up from 30%) Automatic restriction of vehicles below 50% on their last 10 trips from new bookings until an inspection is approved 2 Jan. 4, 2027 60% (up from 50%) Automatic restriction of vehicles below 60% on their last 10 trips from new bookings until an inspection is approved 3 April 26, 2027 TBD by January 2027 Turo will announce the new threshold and restriction details in January 2027 **Tip:** Follow these guidelines to improve or maintain your maintenance rate and avoid having your vehicle restricted.   * Monitor each vehicle's maintenance rate in the **Vehicles** tab of the app. * Check the **Reviews** tab to see specific issues guests have flagged. * Address maintenance items proactively — ratings often recover within a few trips. ### Requirements Turo’s maintenance requirements include, but are not limited to, these listed essentials. Turo reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to decide if a maintenance issue falls short of standards required by the platform.  ### Air conditioning * Vehicles must be equipped with working air conditioning and heating systems. (Exceptions may apply for classic or specialty vehicles) ### Battery age * Battery should be five years old or newer; batteries more than five years old must be able to pass a 12.1 v test using a multimeter ### Body * Hosts should make every effort to repair any cosmetic damage to the body of the vehicle (dents, scratches, etc). When dents, scratches and dings are present, they must be less than 3” in diameter. * If the damage is irreparable, please refer to our _Accuracy Standards_.  ### Brakes * Shoes and pads must be at least 3 mm thick ### Dashboard lights * No dashboard lights that indicate the vehicle requires immediate attention should be lit; these include, but aren’t limited to, lights indicating low tire pressure, check engine, or low oil  ### Horn * The vehicle's horn must be in working condition.  ### Interior components  * Interior components, such as seat adjusters, window levers, glove compartment, and other control mechanisms and features must be in working order ### Mirrors * All adjustable mirrors must be in working order and free of cracks, chips, and scratches ### Seatbelts * All seatbelts must be in working order ### Tires * Tires must have a tread depth of at least 4/32” or 3.175mm * Tires must show no signs of dry rot * Tires must be free of air bubbles, gashes, and other defects * **US and Canada only:** Tires must be less than six years old ### Vehicle lights  * Headlights, tail lights, brake lights and turn indicator lights must be operable and clean ### Windshield * Front and back windshield should be free of cracks, chips, or other damage; if otherwise, cracks, chips, or other damage must be smaller than 1” or 25.4mm * Windshield wipers must be in working order
