## Guest requests for changes

When a guest requests a change to their trip, the Turo system will either make an automatic trip change or will pass the request on to you to manually confirm or decline it. There’s no special setting and no “opt in” or “opt out” for automatic trip changes; it’s simply the way the Turo system works.

Guest requests eligible for automatic trip changes are requests to:

* change the date or time of a trip start and/or trip end
* extend an in-progress or ended trip
* end an in-progress trip early
* change the vehicle pickup or return location

**Note:** Guests must submit trip change requests via the Turo system to be approved there or passed to you to confirm or decline. A verbal or written agreement on your part—even in Turo messaging—isn’t valid and could result in Turo voiding your protection tied to your earnings plan.

## Automatic trip changes

#### How it works

Turo automatically reviews trip change requests to determine if our system can automatically make the trip change. To make that determination, it checks the following:

* vehicle has calendar availability and isn’t restricted or unlisted
* request doesn’t conflict with vehicle settings for advance notice, pickup and return hours, trip buffer, and trip duration at the vehicle’s location (home, delivery, custom)

#### Trip changes not allowed

**If the vehicle is unavailable, unlisted, or restricted or if there’s a conflict with your trip buffer time at the vehicle location,** the guest won’t be able to submit a change request and no change will be made to the trip. The only exception —  a guest can still request to shorten a trip if a vehicle is restricted or unlisted.

#### Trip changes automatically made

**If the vehicle is available, listed or snoozed, and there are no conflicts with your settings at the vehicle’s location,** the system automatically accepts the change and notifies you. For example:

* A guest wants to change the return time from 7pm to 9pm for a home location trip. Your home location pickup and return hours end at 10pm, so the trip change would be automatic.
* A guest wants to change the return location to a delivery location you offer. They give an eight-hour advance notice, and you only require a three-hour advance notice for delivery locations, so the trip change would be automatic.

#### Trip changes sent to you

**If the vehicle is unavailable or restricted or if there are any conflicts with your settings at the vehicle’s location**, the system will send the pending guest request to you to confirm or decline on the **Details** page of the trip.

For example:

* A guest wants to change the return time from 7pm to 9pm for a home location trip. Your home location pick up and return hours end at 8pm, so the trip change will require your approval.
* A guest wants to change the return location to a delivery location you offer. They give a one-day advance notice, but you require a two-day advance notice for delivery locations, so the trip change would require your approval.
* A guest wants to extend a trip in the US or Australia beyond the trip duration maximum you’ve set. This policy doesn’t apply to trips booked in France, the UK, or Canada where mandatory maximum trip durations apply. Hosts in the US and Australia should note that if they do accept an extension beyond their trip duration maximum will not longer be in effect for the trip and, if eligible, the guest can continue to extend.

We encourage you to respond as quickly as possible. If the request expires or if you decline the request, the system won’t register any change and will notify the guest that they must adhere to the currently agreed upon time and/or pickup/return location for the trip. If you have more than one vehicle listed, you can filter your requests by vehicle to more easily access them.

**Note about extensions:** Because guests can request a trip extension up to 24 hours after their trip ends, you may receive notice of an automatic trip change or notice of a pending guest request up to 24 hours after a trip ends.
