## Policy

Turo follows the law in making a distinction between service and assistance animals and pets (non-service animals). Turo allows service and assistance animals, as defined by law, in any vehicle on the platform; see applicable laws in the [US,](https://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm) [Australia](https://humanrights.gov.au/our-work/disability-rights/projects/assistance-animals-and-disability-discrimination-act-1992-cth), [Canada](https://www.servicedogscanada.org/), [France](https://help.turo.com/fr/reglement-sur-les-animaux-de-compagnie-et-d'assistance-or-hotes-B1WUUNgN5), and the [UK](https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/the-law/). We don’t require hosts to go beyond accommodations outlined by law.

We encourage guests with service and assistance animals to book vehicles labeled “pet friendly"; however, all vehicles on Turo are open to guests traveling with service or assistance animals. Guests traveling with service or assistance animals aren’t required to use a crate/carrier for their animal while in the vehicle.

Pets, including animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support, don’t qualify as service or assistance animals. If your vehicle isn’t labeled “pet friendly” but a guest sends you a message asking to bring a pet, you can grant permission via Turo Messaging **_or_** cancel the trip without penalty.

## Violations

We allow hosts to report a cleaning issue and charge a [cleaning violation fee](https://help.turo.com/cleaning-and-disinfection-policy-or-hosts-B1PrUNe49) if a guest:

* transporting a pet that isn’t a service or assistance animal in a vehicle that isn’t “pet friendly” without approval
* returns the vehicle with a significant amount of animal hair
* returns the vehicle with a cleaning issue that could have only been caused by irresponsible or abusive behavior
