## How to shorten a trip or end early

You must submit a trip change request via the Turo system to change the date or time your trip starts or ends, or to end a trip **more than three hours early**

1. Open the **Trips** tab in the Turo app to access the list of your upcoming trips

2. Tap the **“Manage trip”** button to open a drop-down menu and tap **“Change trip”**

3. If no **“Manage trip”** button is displayed, open the trip to land on the trip **Details** page

4. Tap **“Dates and location”**

If you want to end a trip **less than three hours early,** you can bypass Turo and make the request directly to your host via Turo messaging and get their approval there. You must get your host’s approval in writing

**If you need to end your trip early because of a mechanical or vehicle issue,** [**call us**](https://help.turo.com/reporting-a-car-that's-unsafe-or-unsatisfactory-ry7j4ElV5)**.**

## How the process works

Your host has 12 hours to respond to your message or submitted request. Make your request as soon as possible so your host can respond by the time of your requested early return.

**If your host accepts your request,** we’ll notify you, record the change in Turo, and charge any balance due or process any refund due, depending on the change.

**If your host declines your request or doesn’t respond in time for you to shorten or end the trip early,** you must return the vehicle at the originally scheduled time. If you return the vehicle early without your host’s approval, you’re still responsible for any vehicle damage until the scheduled end of the trip and [responsible for any tickets or towing costs for illegal parking](https://help.turo.com/street-parking-ryr5V4g4c) up until 24 hours after the scheduled end of the trip.

## How a shortened trip impacts your distance limit

When you shorten a trip, the Turo system will adjust the number of miles or kilometres you can drive based on the new total trip days and whether your host has set a monthly distance limit. Here’s how it works:

* If your trip is shortened to fewer than seven days, the Turo system will use the host’s daily distance limit to calculate the new distance included in your trip

* If your trip is shortened to more than seven days but fewer than 30 days, the Turo system will use the host’s weekly distance limit to calculate the new distance included in your trip

* If your trip is shortened but is still more than 30 days and the host has a monthly distance limit, the Turo system will use the monthly limit to calculate the new distance included in your trip; if the host hasn’t set a monthly or weekly distance limit, the Turo system will use the host’s daily distance limit to make the calculation

## How a shortened trip affects your cost

#### **Balance due**

If you shorten a trip for which you received a duration discount and the new trip length falls below the discount threshold, you may owe an additional amount. We’ll compute the new discount, if any, using the current discount in place at the time of the change request. If there’s a balance due, we’ll display it as a separate line item before you submit your request and charge your payment on file if your host accepts the change.

#### Refund due

If your shortened trip results in a refund, we’ll notify you and refund you for the trip’s unused time. If you shorten a non-refundable trip, you won’t be eligible for a refund.

If you paid a trip deposit, we’ll refund that deposit 80 hours after the new trip end time, as long as your host doesn’t report any issues or damage.

If you booked a non-refundable trip and shorten the trip, you won’t be eligible for any refund.

If you return the vehicle early without an approved request or if you ended your trip up to three hours early with your host’s permission in Turo messaging, you won’t be eligible for a refund of any amount.
