Source: https://help.turo.com/en_us/tracking-and-technology-devices-SkF48Nl49 Last updated: 2026-08-10T16:23:22.300Z ## Policy   ### Permitted devices and disclosure Turo permits hosts to use tracking and technology devices in order to track and protect their vehicles. These include, but are not limited to, GPS, aftermarket vehicle tracking technology, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices, cameras, and telematics devices.  Turo requires hosts to disclose certain kinds of technology devices to guests. Turo requires hosts in some locations to disclose their use of tracking and technology devices in their vehicle. Additionally, in some locations, Turo requires hosts of high-value vehicles to use a tracking device and sets restrictions on the use of certain device types. Turo requires all hosts to disclose to guests, and get guest consent for, the use of the following technology device: **Cameras with a view of a vehicle’s interior and/or auditory recording devices** – You must ask for and receive explicit, written consent from your guest via Turo messaging to turn on any device, including an OEM-installed camera or aftermarket dashcam, that records the interior of the vehicle or records audio within the vehicle. **Note:** Hosts are subject to additional policy requirements specific to their location. Turo has the right to use device data in the following circumstances:  * To recover a vehicle (i.e. if the vehicle is missing or the guest fails to return the vehicle at the end of the trip) * To determine that a trip should end early, suspend a guest’s account, and/or reduce or void protection under the guest’s protection plan if Turo receives a report of reckless driving or other careless or unsafe behavior * To share camera and telematics data with insurers or other third parties, such as law enforcement ## Violations We may review a host’s account if we learn you turned on a camera with a view of a vehicle’s interior during a trip or a device capable of recording audio within the vehicle without a guest’s explicit, written consent in Turo messaging, and may, at our discretion, remove you from Turo.  Turo prohibits the use of AirTags in vehicles as an active tracking device. AirTags may create a negative guest experience and can be unreliable as GPS trackers. Hosts who continue to use AirTags in a vehicle will be subject to penalties by Turo up to and including account suspension and may be removed from the platform. ## Additional requirements, restrictions, and violations by location ### Additional requirements and violations – US Turo requires hosts who list a vehicle with a fair market value of $125,000 or more to have an activated OEM tracker and when requested to provide data, including the vehicle location, to Turo, our third-party partners or vendors, law enforcement, and any other authorities involved in an open investigation. If you don’t have an activated tracker, Turo may withhold up to 20% of covered damages above the earnings plan damage responsibility tied to the vehicle. If you fail to provide the requested data and location information, Turo may reduce or void your protection.  ### Additional requirements and violations – Australia Turo requires hosts in Australia who list a vehicle with a fair market value of A$75,000 or more to maintain an activated GPS tracker (not connected through OBD-II port) in the vehicle. We further expect hosts to cooperate with Turo, our third-party partners or vendors, law enforcement, and any other authorities related to an open investigation of a missing vehicle or late return. If you fail to meet these requirements, Turo may withhold up to 20% of covered damages above the earnings plan damage responsibility tied to the vehicle. ### Additional requirements, restrictions, and violations – Canada #### Ontario (Vehicle fair market value $60,000 or more) **Important**: Ontario’s active tracking requirements take effect on August 4, 2026.  * **Required tracker:** Vehicle must have an activated TAG or KYCS tracker (Teslas are excluded). * **Installation/Process:** TAG or KYCS anti-theft systems must be professionally installed by a third party; keep your receipt and proof of installation. A customer support agent will contact you after listing your vehicle to request documents and approve your listing. * **Resource & Discount:** KYCS trackers can be purchased at a preferred price from the approved partner in the Greater Toronto Area, [**24/7 Auto Group**](https://www.247autogroup.com/turo). You should also check with your personal insurance broker for a potential premium discount. * **Consequence of non-compliance:** Failure to maintain an active tracker may result in Turo withholding up to **$30,000** of covered damages in the event of a theft. #### All other provinces and territories, including Ontario until August 4, 2026 (Vehicle fair market value $105,000 or more) * **Required tracker:** Vehicle must have an activated OEM, TAG, or KYCS tracker. * **Consequence of non-compliance:** Failure to maintain an active tracker may result in Turo withholding up to **$30,000** of covered damages in the event of a theft. **Note:** We expect hosts to cooperate with Turo, our third-party partners or vendors, law enforcement, and any other authorities related to an open investigation of a missing vehicle or late return. ### Additional requirements, restrictions, and violations – UK Turo requires hosts in the UK to install and maintain an active tracker in certain vehicles. Review the [required active tracker policy for the UK](https://help.turo.com/active-tracker-policy-for-select-uk-vehicle-models-HyoS8NxEq).    Turo does not permit UK hosts to list and share a vehicle that is equipped with a device that allows anyone other than the host, guest, or Turo (including Turo's trusted partners) to unlock the vehicle during a Turo trip **_or_** to obtain vehicle data relating to a Turo trip (e.g., location of the shared vehicle, odometer readings, speedometer readings, etc.). Turo exempts from this rule any UK host/owner whose vehicle comes equipped by the OEM with this kind of device mentioned or whose insurer requires it to install such a device. ### Additional requirements and violations – France Turo requires hosts in France who list vehicles that are less than 6 years old or with a fair market value of 25,000 € or more to install and maintain an active tracker.
