We'll show you all the charges for your trip on the checkout screen before you book.  ## Trip price **Trip price is a vehicle’s listed rate multiplied by the trip length.** Hosts can set a standard rate for all calendar days or set different prices for different days. The trip price you see reflects the vehicle’s daily rate for your chosen travel dates minus any available discounts set by the host.  ## Trip fee **Trip fee is a percentage of the trip price.** The trip fee goes to Turo to help us run the platform and to cover the costs of supporting each trip. The trip fee varies depending on a number of factors. For example, a high trip fee may be the result of booking a high-value vehicle, booking with little advance notice, booking a short trip, or other factors or combination of factors.  To see the trip fee, tap/click to open the **Subtotal** field on the checkout screen. Higher trip fees in New York are necessary to cover higher costs driven by the peer-to-peer car sharing law in this state. The trip fee can’t be removed or refunded at the end of a trip.  ## Protection  **Your protection cost is the cost of the protection plan you choose for your trip.** Protection plans limit what you’d pay out of pocket for eligible damages to the vehicle that occur during your trip. Each plan costs a different amount and offers different levels of coverage. You are not required to purchase a protection plan. This fee can’t be removed or refunded at the end of a trip.  ## Airport fee **An airport fee is charged by airports in the US and Canada where Turo has a delivery permit. These airports require Turo to remit this fee to them in exchange for allowing hosts to deliver vehicles there.** Fees are set by the airport and differ across facilities. Turo doesn't set these fees, mark them up, or retain any portion. Turo adds this fee to the cost of a guest’s trip, but exceptions apply at some airports. We’ll display this fee on the trip checkout screen as an “Airport permit fee,” “Concession recovery fee,” “License recovery fee,” or “Operator fee,” depending on the name used by the airport. ## Extras [**Extras**](https://help.turo.com/adding-extras-to-your-trip-r1Fb44eVc) **are optional conveniences or add-on items available for purchase from hosts who offer them.** These include conveniences such as prepaid refueling or unlimited mileage, or items such as bicycles, child safety seats, or tents. Not all hosts offer Extras, and hosts who do  set their own price for them. ## Hawaii operations fee **The Hawaii operations fee is a fee charged only to guests who pick up their vehicle at Lihue Airport. It covers operational costs at this location, including operation of the Turo shuttle.** ## Delivery fee **A delivery fee is a fee charged by some hosts in exchange for dropping off and picking up their vehicle at a location somewhere other than the vehicle’s home location.** If a host charges a delivery fee at a location you’ve chosen, it’ll be included as part of the total cost of the trip.  ## Security deposit **A** [**security deposit**](https://help.turo.com/security-deposits-HkbE44lE9) **is a refundable charge to be applied to post-trip costs for** **vehicle damage, unpaid eligible reimbursement invoices, or** **eligible roadside services.** If there are no such costs, Turo will refund the security deposit 80 hours after a trip ends. Neither Turo nor hosts can remove these deposits.   ## Taxes Some **US states** require Turo to collect a [sales tax](https://help.turo.com/sales-tax-or-guests-B1AEVNeE9) for trips that begin or end in those states. In Canada, **Quebec** requires Turo to collect  [Quebec Sales tax (QST)](https://help.turo.com/quebec-sales-tax-or-guests-rkJHENx49) on services Turo provides on trips booked by Quebec residents in any Canadian province. Turo is also required to collect a Value-added tax on services Turo provides for [trips that originate in the UK](https://help.turo.com/value-added-tax-(vat)-or-guests-SkGBN4eV9).  ## Frequently asked questions **Why is my trip fee so high? My trip fee was less last time I booked–what changed?**  The trip fee is a percentage of the trip price and that percentage varies depending on a number of factors unique to each trip. These factors can include the vehicle’s value (a higher-value vehicle may incur a higher trip fee), lead time of booking (trips booked further in advance can lower the associated trip fee), trip duration (shorter trips contribute to a higher trip fee, while longer trips can help reduce the trip fee), and more.  **Can you waive my trip fee?** Turo is unable to remove or refund a trip fee. \*We display the Trip Price and related costs in A$ for Australia, CA$ for Canada, € for France, and £ for the United Kingdom.
