This article explains the process by which guests receive a response to their request to extend a trip and how Turo calculates associated costs and mileage for the extension. ## Trip extension request responses

Once a guest submits a trip change request via Turo to request an extension, they must receive Turo system approval to keep the vehicle past the original end time. In most cases, guests receive an immediate response; if a host review is required, the system will provide a response within 12 hours.

*   **Accepted requests:** Turo updates the trip details and charges the balance due for the extension. 
    
*   **Declined or unresponded requests:** Guests must return the vehicle at the originally scheduled time. A host’s decision is final, and a lack of response does not indicate permission to extend.
    

## Cost of a trip extension

A guest’s total cost to extend a trip depends on the extension length and the host's pricing.

*   **Duration discounts:** Original trip duration discounts do not apply to extensions. Extensions may qualify for their own separate duration discounts.
    
*   **Additional costs:** Daily charges, trip fees, and protection plan costs apply based on the extension length. Turo displays these new costs as separate line items before a guest submits the request. Vehicle pick-up fees remain unchanged.
    

## Mileage limits for a trip extension

Distance limits for extensions depend on the terms of the original booking.

*   **Unlimited mileage:** Turo recalculates the distance limit based on the original booked days plus the extension. The calculation for the original trip period relies on the location:
    
    *   **US and UK:** 300 miles per day.
        
    *   **Australia, Canada, and France:** 500 km per day.
        
*   **Standard mileage:** Turo calculates the allowed driving distance for the extension based on the vehicle's established limits:
    
    *   **Fewer than 7 days:** The system uses the daily distance limit.
        
    *   **7 to 30 days:** The system uses the weekly distance limit.
        
    *   **Greater than 30 days:** The system uses the monthly distance limit.
